In 2002, 18 years before the arrival of Rafael fighter plane, India brought Sukhoi 30 MKI fighter from Russia.  The arrival of Rafale fighter plane has strengthened the Indian Air Force as Rafale is a 4.5 generation fighter aircraft.  Today Pakistan has F16 fighter aircraft while China and America also have 5 Generation and 6 Generation fighter aircraft.  India already has 272 Sukhois, 36 Mirage, 90 Jaguars, 29 MiG-48s, and 56 MiG-27s.

Why the first 18 Rafale fighter aircraft will be stationed in Ambala airbase: -

India's first 18 aircraft will be deployed at Ambala airbase as Ambala airbase is very important from strategic and security point of view.  Ambala airbase is close to the border of Pakistan and China, due to which this airbase is very useful for India in strategic terms.  Indian airplanes flew several times to attack from this airbase even during the Kargil war.  Pakistan also planned to attack this airbase in the 1965 and 1971 wars, including the Kargil war.
